Why Reset the Honeywell Thermostat?

Sometimes, when you install a new thermostat or replace an old one, it might not work right away. This is especially true with older thermostats that were made before Honeywell started using their modern technology.

It could also happen if you changed the settings on the thermostat after installing it. If this happens, then you need to reset the thermostat so that it will start working as expected again.

These are the common issues that can be solved by a reset:

  • Thermostat programming and scheduling issues
  • Having trouble connecting to the HVAC system, furnace, or air conditioning unit
  • Temperature readings are inaccurate or Inconsistent

Find the Honeywell Thermostat Model Number

Before you can reset any model of Honeywell thermostat, you need to find its model number. You can do this by looking at the back of the thermostat.

The model number should be printed in small letters near the bottom of the back panel, or on a small label on the front panel, or inside the digital interface itself.

If the model number is on the back of the thermostat, you’ll need to take it off the base plate on the wall to see the number:

  1. Turn off the thermostat while still on the wall. You may need to turn off the circuit from the circuit breaker or remove the thermostat’s batteries.
  2. Carefully remove the thermostat from the baseplate without pulling the wires off.
  3. Find the thermostat model number.
  4. Put the Honeywell thermostat back onto the base plate and turn it on.
