All the preloaded apps or installed apps are subject to freeze, crash, not load, or even disappear. That includes streaming service apps like Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Netflix, and many others.
In this article, I cover 9 fixes for reasons for issues with Paramount Plus on your Samsung TV.

1. Soft Reset or Cold Reboot the Samsung TV
There may be some corrupted settings on the Samsung television that prevent Paramount Plus from working. If you’re having trouble using the Paramount Plus app, you may want to perform a soft reset (power cycle) to stop all the apps and background processes that are running.
There are two ways to cold reboot and restart your Samsung TV.
Method 1 – Follow these steps to soft reset a Samsung TV:
- Unplug the TV’s power cable from the power outlet for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet or surge protector.
- Wait for the TV to completely reboot.
Method 2 – To cold reboot the Samsung TV:
- Unplug the TV power cable.
- On the Remote Control, Press and Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug the TV back into the power outlet.
- Wait for the TV to finish starting up.
2. Check for Samsung TV Firmware Updates
Sometimes an update for a new version of the Paramount Plus app may not be compatible with older Samsung TV software and firmware.
Samsung will release new updates periodically to fix bugs and improve performance. It’s best to get them when they’re available for download. Upgrading to the latest TV firmware can sometimes resolve some issues related to the Paramount Plus app.
To get the latest firmware update for your Samsung TV, go to the TV Settings menu. You can also download an update for the device directly from the Samsung support website.
Follow these steps to update the Samsung TV firmware through the TV menu settings:
1. On the Samsung TV remote control, Press Home.
2. Select Settings
3. Select Support.
4. Select Software Update.
5. Select Update Now.
The other way to update the TV, you’ll first need to download an updated version of Samsung TV firmware from their website and then transfer it to a USB stick. To get started, follow these steps:
- On your desktop or laptop, go to the Samsung download page and find your TV model.
- Download the latest firmware version to your computer.
- Extract the files and transfer them to a USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive into one of the USB ports on the TV.
- On the TV remote, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select Support.
- Select Software Update.
- Start the Software Update Process on the TV.
- The TV will reboot and use the updated firmware on the USB drive. Be sure not to remove the USB drive until after the TV has fully rebooted.
3. Remove and Reinstall App
Sometimes an app conflict may cause Paramount Plus to stop functioning properly on a Samsung television. If you notice that Paramount Plus isn’t working correctly after installing it, remove it and then install it again. This may solve the problem.
You can try updating the app if there’s an available update for Paramount Plus. You could delete and re-install the app to get a fresh start.
If you want to remove Paramount Plus from your computer, make sure you have the login info for it somewhere because the saved login info might get lost. You will be logged off of the app, so you will need to log back in.
Follow these steps to uninstall Paramount Plus on a Samsung TV:
1. Press Home on the remote control.
2. Navigate to Apps.
3. Select Settings.
4. Navigate to the Paramount Plus App.
5. Select Delete. If Delete is grayed out, you won’t be able to delete it because it’s a recommended app. Instead, Select Reinstall.
6. Press Return on the Remote.
7. Select Search.
8. Enter the Paramount Plus App Name.
9. Select to Install the Paramount Plus App.
- Press Home on the remote control.
- Navigate to Apps.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to the Paramount Plus App.
- Select Delete. If Delete is grayed out, you won’t be able to delete it because it’s a recommended app. Instead, Select Reinstall.
- Press Return on the Remote.
- Select Search.
- Enter the Paramount Plus App Name.
- Select to Install the Paramount Plus App.
4. Slow Internet Connection
If you experience the Paramount Plus app freezing or having any other issues, it might be because of slow Internet connection speeds when streaming high definition (HD) or 4k video content.
If you’re going to stream from Paramount Plus, you’ll need at least a 5Mbps download speed to stream HD videos. To stream 4K video, you need at least 50Mbps download speed.
There may be several reasons why the WiFi download speeds are so slow. Here are some common reasons why you might see a slow internet connection status.
1. Weak Wi-Fi Signal to the Samsung TV
If the Wi-Fi signal is weak between the TV and wireless router, the Internet connection may intermittently stop working and lose its connection. Streaming issues will occur if you try to use the Paramount Plus app.
Make sure the Wi‑Fi signal between the TV and the wireless router is strong. To check whether the Wi-fi connection is strong enough, go through these steps.
- On the Samsung TV remote, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Network.
- Select Open Network Settings.
- Select Wireless.
- In the wireless networks list, see how many signal bars the wireless network has. 1 to 2 bars is the sign of a weak signal.
If the distance between your wireless network and Samsung TV is too large, then it could cause poor connection quality and inconsistent Wi-Fi connections. One reason why weak Wi-Fi signals may be present is that there are many obstacles between your TV and the router, such as many walls, which block signals.
It’s easier to move the router close to the television instead of placing the television close to the router. Shorter distances between the router and the devices connected to it will improve the quality of the Wi-Fi signals.
If the router and Samsung TV cannot be moved, then get a Wi-Fi repeater that acts as a middle point for Wi-Fi signals between the two devices.
WiFi repeaters are often referred to as WiFi extenders. The one below is one of the best ones out there and works well in smart homes. They can be found on Amazon:
2. Soft Reset the Wi-Fi Router
If your Wi-Fi router hasn’t rebooted or been shut off for some time, there could be issues with its settings or something might be wrong. With Wi-Fi connections, it can cause slowdowns and interruptions.
If your network equipment has been running for some time and suddenly stops working, power cycling it may fix the problem.
To soft reset the WiFi Router or Modem, follow these steps:
- Unplug the Wi-Fi Router from the power outlet for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the Wi-Fi Router back in to the power outlet.
- Turn On the Router if there’s an On/Off switch.
- Wait a few minutes for the Router to start up and connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
3. Try a Wired Connection
You may need to check if your router has trouble sharing the internet connection via the wireless signal. Wired connections are more stable than wireless ones, and they’re easier to troubleshoot if something goes wrong.
To get a fast internet connection to your Samsung TV, you’ll need to connect it via an ethernet cable. If you want to check if there is any internet connectivity problem, you can connect the Ethernet cable between the TV and the router.
Follow these steps to connect and use a wired internet connection with your Samsung TV:
- Connect an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the back of the Samsung smart TV to a LAN port on the router or modem.
- On the Samsung TV remote control, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Network.
- Select OK for the TV to use the wired network to access the internet.
If you have an internet connection, the Wi-Fi router’s ability to connect wirelessly may be having issues. If none of these solutions work, you might need to upgrade the router’s firmware, perform a factory reset, or replace the Wi‑Fi adapter.
4. Disconnect Other Devices from the Wi-Fi Network
If multiple devices are connecting to a single wireless router simultaneously, they may slow down overall network speeds.
For example, if you have three smartphones, three tablets and three computers connected to the same Wi-Fi network, the internet speed will be very slow for each device. That’s especially true if they’re all streaming HD videos on Paramount Plus or other streaming platforms.
Older Wi-Fi routers and modems tend to be particularly bad when it comes to dealing with multiple connected devices simultaneously.
If you want to improve your internet speed on your Samsung TV for Paramount Plus, disconnect all the other devices. Then reconnect Samsung TV to the Wi-Fi network again and see if you’re getting fast internet speeds again.
If this fixes the slow internet issue, you know that it was actually a problem with an old router not being able to support multiple devices. You should definitely consider upgrading to a new Wi-Fi router that supports multiple devices sharing the internet simultaneously.
5. Change DNS Server
Sometimes unstable internet connections can cause Paramount Plus issues on the TV. Check if there are any DNS server settings configured incorrectly from your Internet service provider (ISP).
You can usually set the default DNS server for the Internet connection to be something else than the one provided by your ISP. By doing this, when you type in an internet address into the browser, it can potentially load faster.
If your ISP’s DNS servers cause issues when trying to access Paramount Plus servers, you can use Google’s public DNS servers instead. Google’s DNS servers offer a more reliable internet connection than others.
Follow these steps to manually change the DNS settings and use Google’s DNS servers on the Samsung TV:
- On the Samsung TV remote control, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Network.
- Select Network Status.
- Select IP Settings.
- Select DNS Setting.
- Select Enter Manually.
- Select DNS Server.
- Enter 8.8.8.8.
- Try to open and reconnect to the Paramount Plus app again.
6. Reset Smart Hub on Samsung TV
If one of the apps that you’re logged into on the Samsung smart TV has an issue, then there may be a conflict between the app and Paramount Plus. Resetting the smart hub on the Samsung TV can help here.
If you reset the smart hub on the Samsung TV, it will sign out of all the apps, so they don’t interfere with each other. Before a smart hub reset, make sure you have all the necessary login information, username and password, so you’ll be ready to log back in when you’re done.
For newer Samsung Smart TV models made after 2020, follow these steps:
- On the remote control, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select Support.
- Select Service Care.
- Select Self Diagnosis.
- Select Reset Smart Hub.
For older Samsung TV models made before 2020, follow these steps:
- On the remote control, Press Home.
- Select Settings.
- Select Support.
- Select Self Diagnosis.
- Select Reset Smart Hub.
If the Samsung TV asks for a security PIN code to restart the Smart Hub and you didn’t change the PIN code previously, use the default PIN: 0000.
You might also need to download the Paramount Plus app again after resetting.
