It’s the weekend! Free from all your stress and workload. You may just want to sit down and relax by enjoying some shows on your Xfinity Stream TV app on your Samsung smart TV.

But then you see an error message that prevents you from watching. The Xfinity app is not working on the Samsung TV.

It’s frustrating because you want to watch the video! What do you do?

Well, if you’re like me, you go into the settings and try to find what is causing the problem. Sometimes it’s easy to fix, sometimes it isn’t.

In this article, I’ll cover the common reasons and fixes for issues with the Xfinity app not working on your Samsung TV.

1. Soft Reset or Cold Reboot the Samsung TV

Some corrupted cache or settings on the Samsung smart TV could be preventing Xfinity from working properly. A soft reset, or power cycle, shuts off the TV completely and stops all the background processes and apps that might be causing issues with the Xfinity app.

There are two methods to perform a cold reboot and restart a Samsung TV.

Method 1 – Follow these steps to soft reset a Samsung TV:

  • Unplug the TV’s power cord from the wall outlet for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable back into the wall outlet or surge protector.
  • Wait for the TV to finish restarting.

Method 2 – To cold reboot the Samsung TV:

  • Remove the TV power cable from the power outlet.
  • On the Remote Control, Press and Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Plug the TV back into the power outlet.
  • Wait for the TV to finish starting up.

2. Check for Samsung TV Firmware Updates

Sometimes an update for a new version of the Xfinity app may not be compatible with older Samsung smart TVs.

Usually, Samsung will release new software updates occasionally to fix any bugs. So it is best to download them whenever they are available.

Upgrading to the latest version of Samsung TV software and hardware will resolve the issue for your Xfinity app but also with other streaming applications.

You can download the most recent firmware update for Samsung TVs by going into the TV’s setting menu. You can also download the latest software update through the manufacturer’s website.

Follow these steps through the TV menu to update the Samsung TV firmware:

4. Slow Internet Connection

If you experience the Xfinity app freezing or having other connectivity issues, it could be due to slow internet connection speeds or there might be a problem with your internet service providers.

When streaming from Xfinity, you will need a at least download speed of 5 Mbps to stream HD video. If you want to stream a 4K video, you will need a minimum of 50+ Mbps.

There could be several causes as to why the Wi-Fi download speed is slow. Here are the most common causes and fixes for slow connection speed.

1. Weak Wi-Fi Signal to the Samsung TV

If the Wi-Fi signal is weak between the television and wireless router device, the Internet connection may become unstable and lose its connection. Leading to issues while streaming with the Xfinity app.

To ensure that the Wi-Fi connection between the TV and the wireless network is strong enough, follow the steps below.

  1. On the Samsung TV remote, Press Home.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select General.
  4. Select Network.
  5. Select Open Network Settings.
  6. Select Wireless.
  7. On the list of wireless networks, check how many signal bars your WiFi has. 1 to 2 bars is the sign of a poor and weak signal.

The reach between your wireless network router and Samsung TV can be the main reason for poor connection quality and fluctuating network connection.

One reason why weak Wi-Fi connections may be present is that they’re blocked by obstacles. Walls can prevent the signal from reaching the devices.

To shorten the distance between the router and the TV, it’ll be much more convenient for you to move the router closer to the Samsung TV. A shorter distance between the router and the device will definitely improve the quality of your Wi-Fi connections.

You’ll need to buy a wireless repeater if the router and TV cannot be relocated.

Wi-Fi repeaters are also known as Wi-Fi extenders. Below is one of the best ones on the market that works well in smart homes. They can be found on Amazon:

2. Soft Reset the Wi-Fi Router

If your Wi-Fi network hasn’t restarted or been turned off for a long time, there could possibly be issues with its settings. It could cause inconsistency in its connection and slower internet speeds.

Power cycling and restarting your network equipment like your router or modem can help resolve the issue.

To soft reset or power cycle the WiFi Router or Modem, follow these steps:

  • Unplug the Wi-Fi Router from the wall outlet. Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the Wi-Fi Router back into the power outlet.
  • Turn On the Router if there’s an On/Off switch.
  • Wait a few minutes for the Router to restart and connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

3. Try a Wired Connection

Your router may encounter issues when sharing the internet connection through the wireless signal. Wired connections are more dependable than wireless ones, and they’re easier to troubleshoot. A wired connection is actually more stable and can maximize your internet speed.

You can also use an ethernet cable from the TV to the router to test the internet connection.

Follow these steps to connect and use a wired internet connection with your Samsung TV:

  1. Connect an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the back of your Samsung smart TV to a LAN port on the router or modem.
  2. On the Samsung TV remote control, Press Home.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Choose General.
  5. Select Network.
  6. Choose OK for the TV to use the wired network to access the internet.

If you have an internet connection, the Wi-Fi network’s wireless connectivity may be having issues. If nothing else has worked, you might need to update the router’s firmware, do a factory reset, or swap out the Wi-Fi adapter for another one.

4. Disconnect Other Devices from the Wi-Fi Network

Connecting multiple devices to a single router at the same time can cause slower speeds for everyone else on the network.

If you have 4 tablets and 3 laptops connected to the same Wi‑Fi network, the internet speeds for each of them will be very slow. It’s even worse if they’re all watching HD video streams at once.

Older Wi-Fi routers and modem models often struggle to deal with multiple simultaneous connections.

To increase the internet speed of your Samsung TV to stream with the Xfinity app, disconnect any other devices from your network. Then reconnect Samsung TV to the Wi-Fi network again and check if you’re getting any better results.

If this fixes the slow internet problem, then the problem lies with the old router not being able to support multiple devices. You should consider upgrading to a newer Wi-Fi router that allows for simultaneous connections from several devices.

5. Change DNS Server

Unstable internet connections can sometimes lead to Xfinity issues on Samsung TVs. If you’re having trouble connecting to websites, the issue can be caused by incorrect DNS server settings from the ISP.

The Samsung smart TV will usually utilize the automatic DNS servers from the ISP, but you can switch them to other DNS servers. Changing to another DNS server can significantly increase your browsing speed.

If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has its own DNS server, you may experience issues when trying to access Xfinity services. However, if you use Google’s public DNS server instead, this can potentially solve these issues. Google’s DNS servers provide a more reliable internet connection than others.

Follow these steps to manually change the DNS settings and use Google’s DNS servers on the Samsung TV:

  1. On the Samsung TV remote control, Press Home.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select General.
  4. ChooseNetwork.
  5. Select Network Status.
  6. Select IP Settings.
  7. Choose DNS Setting.
  8. Select Enter Manually.
  9. Select DNS Server.
  10. Type 8.8.8.8.
  11. Try to reopen and reconnect to the Xfinity app again.

6. Reset Smart Hub on Samsung TV

The apps that you are signed in to on the Samsung smart TV could be conflicting with Xfinity and causing a problem.

Resetting the Smart Hub on the Samsung TV will sign out all of the apps from the Smart Hub and can help by removing any conflicts between them. But before trying a Smart Hub reset, be sure you have access to all the usernames and passwords for each app connected to the Smart Hub.

For newer Samsung Smart TV models made after 2020, follow these steps:

  1. On the remote control, Press Home.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Support.
  4. Select Service Care.
  5. Select Self Diagnosis.
  6. Choose Reset Smart Hub.

For older Samsung TV models made before 2020, follow these steps:

  1. On the remote control, Locate and press Home.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Support.
  4. Choose Self Diagnosis.
  5. Select Reset Smart Hub.

Samsung TV may ask for a security PIN code to restart the Smart Hub and but if you didn’t change the PIN code, use the default PIN: 0000.

You might also need to redownload the Xfinity app again after resetting.
