1. LG OLED C1 Series – Best Overall

LG takes home the “best television” award at CES 2021 with this LG OLED C1 model. The C1 comes with 48 inch, 55 inch, 65 inch, 77 inch sizes and a brand new 82 inch model.

LG’s lineup can be a confusing mix of alphabet soup, but what matters is that there are three different ranges of LG OLED TVs:

  • A1, Budget-Friendly – This is the low-end of the lineup, sacrificing certain features to save on costs. They will give up things like refresh rate, so the A1 models will have a lower refresh rate.
  • G1, High-End – These are the top-of-the-line TV models that LG makes with the most advanced smart features.
  • C1, Best Value – These offer advanced features at a great price. It’s the best balance of performance and price.

LG OLED TVs offer better picture quality than other TV brands. Their OLED technology produces brighter images, richer colors, and deeper blacks.

They feature Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. They are thin and light, making them ideal for gaming and watching movies. Sony A9000 series is also a great choice.

2. Sony X95J Bravia XR – Best LED TV

Sony televisions come in two types: OLED (organic light emitting diode) and LED. Both types are great for watching movies and playing games, but some say OLED televisions offer better picture quality.

But LED screens are better at dealing with screen burn-in, and they can be less expensive than the newer OLED TV technology.

Not surprisingly, Sony has squeezed as much as possible out of the TV. The contrast ratio is excellent, black levels are quite good, and the fast response time makes it ideal for gaming. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Sony X95J TV is a replacement for the X900H from last year. Some people think that the Samsung QN 90A series is also a good option, but the price point of the Sony makes it more attractive.

Overview of Countries Where TVs are Made

It can sometimes feel like 99% of TVs are made in China. In 1994, China began to manufacture televisions. By 1996, China made more than half of all televisions manufactured worldwide. As of 2004, China makes over 80 percent of all televisions produced.

There are only a few TV brands left outside of mainland China: Samsung and LG from South Korea, Sony from Japan, Philips from Europe, and Vizio from the US. A Chinese company tried to acquire Vizio in July 2016, but that deal didn’t happen so as of now they’re still a US company.

What brands are to be avoided if you don’t want to buy Chinese?

Almost every other brand you’ve heard of: TCL (China), Hisense (China), Seiki (China), Insignia (China). Recently, Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has outsourced its TV production to TCL (a Chinese company).

And many well-known brands like Toshiba, Sony, and Panasonic have also been acquired by Chinese companies.

This is an example of where uninformed consumers don’t understand how state capitalism works Brands like HiSense and TCL got so popular because they were able to create a brand identity that resonated with their target audience.

Chinese companies were able to mimic technologies from foreign manufacturers for many years because they outsourced to the Chinese companies. They weren’t able to replicate the high-quality equal to TVs from LG, Samsung, or Sony, but the Chinese TVs were “good enough.”

Second, the CCP subsidizes the Chinese companies so they can offer comparable models for less than their competitors. The CCP has been planning for years to corner the market. Once they’ve done so, they’ll be free to set prices however they choose.

It’s exactly the anti–competitiveness behavior that the U. S. Government broke up in the U.S., but can’t do too much about as they’re different companies still.

But not everyone agrees that Chinese goods are inferior. Some say that the quality of Chinese manufactured goods has improved over the past decade and that American companies should stop complaining about Chinese imports.

The truth lies somewhere between these two extremes. While Chinese manufacturers do make some good products, there are also some very poor ones.

TVs Not Made in China Final Thoughts

There aren’t as many choices for Non-Chinese TVs as there were in the past, but it’s possible to find a great TV without having to worry about whether it was made in China or not.
